Q1: Can I use materials outside provided kit to construct Robot
A1: Electronic components of Robots must be constructed out of the kit materials provided, however teams are allowed to use additional mechanical structures besides the kit.
Q2: "An alarm siren will make noise from on top of the wooden structure. This indicates that a landslide will commence for 20 seconds." Does this mean that the alarm will sound, the landslide will begin immediately, and that it will continue for 20 seconds or that the landslide will occur 20 seconds after the alarm starts to sound?
A2: The alarm will sound for 20 seconds, then after landslide will occur.
Q3: Does the robot have to "listen" for the alarm or do the robot operators have to listen for the alarm?
A3: The operator/team must listen for the alarm.
Q4: What is the number of survivors that will be released in the landslide and the quantity of balls released?
A4: A combined number of 20 balls and 20 cones (10 balls and 10 cones on each side) will be released into the playing field.
Q5: Where is the drone pick-up area to pick up survivors?
A5: The drone pickup areas are marked H. Teams’ drones also start from the marked H areas.
Q6 Does each team have a drone in the playing area? Is there a single pick-up area is shared by the two teams in the alliance?
A6: Each team has a drone, so there will be two drones flying per alliance. There are two drone pick-up areas shared by the alliance.
Q7: What is the mechanism by which drones can pick up the survivors?
A7: Teams are free to use any mechanism; as long they follow general rules of the challenge. Below is a drone pick up suggestion.
Q8: Will the surviors stand fall down easily?
A8: No, the survivors stands are firmly bolted to the playing field.
Q9: Does the stars kit come with vision?
A9: Yes, it does come with a vision sensor
Q10: What type of drones are we competing with?
A10: Each competing team will receive a Parrot Bebop 2, this is the only drone that can be used for the competition.
Q11: Are both the robot and drone remote controlled?
A11: Yes
Q12: During the competition do we find our own coalitions?
A12: No, teams will be assigned team to partner and compete against. The coalitions will change per game.
Q13: For the finale do two teams end up winning?
A13: No, the team with the highest points accumulated through-out the competition wins.
